We all want our children to work hard and learn to be responsible members of the community. Every day, our GHEC school board members are leading the way by example. They give hours of their time so our children can have a meaningful education. February 21st through February 25th is Minnesota School Board Recognition Week. Thanks to the hard work of our school board members, our children are preparing for a bright future. Thank a GHEC school board member today! #CelebrateMNSchoolBoards @mnmsba

Denzel Washington said “At the end it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” Thurs., Feb. 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. Each day provides many opportunities.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Mr. Storbeck had an opportunity to read a Valentine’s Day story to elementary students. It was a fun activity. Not sure who had more fun. Have a great week!

This week, all elementary classrooms will begin using the social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum developed by EmpowerU. EmpowerU approach increases confidence, connection, and healthy coping — creating the SEL skill set to thrive inside and outside the classroom. Every week for the remainder of the school year, your student will learn about taking charge of themselves! They will learn many calming tools and life skills. Our hope is that these strategies will help them during times of big feelings or conflict. We hope you start to hear about these lessons at home, and we are excited to be on this journey with EmpowerU!

Hello, GHEC Middle and High School Parents and Families, Winter conferences are coming up on Thursday, February 10th from 3:30-7:30 pm. Typically, we schedule two days for parent-teacher conferences in the fall for a majority of parents to meet with teachers, and one day for conferences in the winter for teachers to schedule meetings for students who may be struggling or need additional support. Teachers will be reaching out to request a conference with the families of students they have identified as possibly benefiting from a conversation about their progress. If you receive communication from your student’s teacher(s) requesting a conference on Thursday, February 10th, it will include possible times to schedule a conference. Our preference is for conferences to be held in person but we are able to facilitate a virtual conference if it is not possible to meet in-person. Our teaching staff is always willing to connect and communicate with any parent or student throughout the school year, and please do not hesitate to reach out to them individually if you would like to discuss your child's progress. Minnesota Student Survey On February 24th GHEC students in grades 8th, 9th, and 11th grades are scheduled to participate in a statewide student survey used to gather information on health, safety, and academic success of youth in Minnesota. This survey is voluntary, confidential, and anonymous and a notice about this survey (as well as the process for a student to opt-out) will be distributed to the students scheduled to participate in the first few days of February. The information gathered from this survey is a valuable tool for school districts, and county and state agencies in providing meaningful support to both students and families. Thank you, Taylor Topinka GHEC Middle and High School Principal
