May 2-6 is Teacher Appreciation Week! We are very grateful for the outstanding group of educators that we have supporting our students on a daily basis at GHEC. Please be sure to thank a teacher this week!

Today our Animal Science class got to go to the sale barn to learn about how cattle get bought and sold! We got to talk to a local vet about his job, walked back through the chutes, and weighed ourselves on the scale! Thanks Blue Earth Stockyards for the great tour!

GHEC High School students had the opportunity to watch a mock crash today. Thank you to the Martin County Sheriff, State Patrol, Fairmont Police and Fire, Mayo Ambulance and Helicopter, Richards Auto, and Fairmont High School for putting this learning opportunity together.

EmpowerU Lesson #9 (This Week): This week’s EmpowerU lesson focuses on mindfulness! We will learn about what it feels like to have a lot of distracting thoughts in our brains, and how to use mindfulness to take charge and focus. The calming tool for this week may be familiar to some of you: Tree Pose! This is a great tool to get your body moving and to help with focus.

EmpowerU Lesson #8 (This Week): EmpowerU Parent Information: This week’s EmpowerU lesson focuses on stress. We will learn about what stress feels like in our individual bodies, and how taking a break can help us to lower stress. The new calming tool this week is called Square Breathing! Have your student show you how to do it at home. It is a great tool for all parts of life!
EmpowerU Elementary Social & Emotional Curriculum EmpowerU Lesson #7 (Last Week): Students will learn about flipping their lid, and what to do when it happens. We all experience moments of flipping our lid, or having big emotions. Through the use of our calming tools, we can bring our lid back down! Students will review the calming tools from weeks past, and will learn a new tool called Mind Jar! Ask your student which calming tool(s) they like best!

Come out and support our FFA with some McDonalds!

Do you know that the colors of the candies in a bag of M&Ms are to be distributed in a certain percentage? Students in the Engineering Design class worked to see if bags of candies match the manufacturer's claims as the exercise for studying Summative Statistics.

The Engineering Design class finished their first project. Students designed and built Puzzle Cubes to study the design process.
